What is a Widget?

One of new features in SoftChalk V5 is the insert widget tool, which allows you to insert widgets into your SoftChalk lesson.

A web widget is a chunk of web code that can be installed and executed within any html-based web page. Once a web widget is placed on a page it will grab updated information and display it within the widget automatically. Widgets enrich your lessons with functionality, useful information and can be a great resource for lesson content. You can use them as learning tools, as a way to get news, information, entertainment, or decoration. And, you may find that they are a lot of fun!

Some widgets are 'self contained' and others actually will link to a remote website for additional information. There are examples of both in this lesson (The Vitamin Widget on this page is 'self contained'; the Social Studies Widget on page 2 links to a third party website). Be aware that a student must have access to the internet to use any of these widgets.
